Every month Stack sends a shiny new indie mag to my office. This month’s is Put A Egg On It, a journal from Brooklyn mostly about “food. Cooking and the communal joys of eating with friends and family. The magazine is biannual and features personal essays, photo essays of dinner parties, special art projects, illustrations, as well as practical cooking tips and recipes. Put A Egg On It is made and created by R&S Media.”

The digest-sized zine is in its 11th issue and features “The Cornflakes Series,” photographs (below) of pop figures eating the crispy flakes, and “Beef Stew, Nairobi,” a photo essay on making vats of it, among other tasty morsels. If you are engaged in alternative food culture, this is the cult mag for you.

All too often, typeface designs, typographic designs and handlettering get overlooked in competitions—which is why Print developed a competition that gives the artforms their full due and recognizes the best designers in each category.
