Is it too early to start shopping for Christmas? Probably, yes. Nevertheless, we couldn’t resist sharing these images of the forthcoming Penguin Drop Cap series, which will offer some excellent holiday gift options for the bookish typography-and-illustration buffs in your lives. Each of the eventual 26 hardcover books in the series is a design collaboration between Jessica Hische and Paul Buckley, and features an illustrated drop cap by Hische, the San Francisco–based designer and illustrator well-known for her Daily Drop Cap blog, where she has been posting illustrative initial caps since 2009. (But don’t worry, the lettering on the Penguin book covers will be original to the series and not recycled from the blog.) According to a press release, each book will also have “a foil-stamped paper-over-board case and a decorative color stain on all three edges.” Sharp! Here are images of the first six titles, which go on sale November 27. (Click the images to view larger versions.)
