As we bite what’s left of our nails, let’s pour one out to the heroes of the election: the editorial designers at newspapers who were locked in a deadline war with their printers last night as the results stretched on and on. (And, of course, the reporters and editors who, fueled by unhealthy quick eats and gallons of coffee, also endure the night with a mix of adrenaline and existential dread.)

Front-page design during crucial national events is a bit like a design school prompt of yore. Everyone has, more or less, the same basic elements. The results of how they handle them are always an interesting study.
