Getting Creatively With the Job Hunt

Another job-searching app? Yup. This one hails from the mind of Alice + Olivia CEO, Stacey Bendet. Creatively, which was originally slated to launch this Fall, got an early start in May after the COVID-19 pandemic left millions unemployed.

Bendet came up with the idea while building a creative team for a separate project. Although there are plenty of job-finding websites available, creatives face unique challenges when presenting their portfolios to potential employers. Sites like LinkedIn don’t offer the high resolution necessary to properly showcase creative work, and don’t even get me started on the lack of video options.

Signing up for Creatively is easy: Just enter your email address and answer a few questions (e.g., “What do you want to do on Creatively?” “Where do you want to work?”). Once your profile is created, you’ll be able to discover creatives around the world, follow folks, upload your own work, and view job listings available right now. You can filter jobs by location, skills, type or brand.

Creatively is currently free for both artists and employers, but there are plans to monetize the platform in the future. Right now, the site is actively seeking to expand its job catalog, including freelance opportunities.

So what sets it apart from similar sites? That is one aspect I’m struggling to see. Perhaps it is the range of creatives Creatively plans to work with—it’s not just graphic designers and illustrators, but also fashion designers, marketers, social media specialists, brand managers, and more. Either way, I’m excited to see what the future holds for Creatively, and I’m especially interested in seeing how they set themselves apart from the competition.
