Gucci Rubs It In Starving Artists’ Faces With Their New Coloring Pencil Roll

Posted inDesign News

Broke artists everywhere are rolling their eyes at the latest addition to Gucci’s stationery line, a $735 coloring pencil roll.

Equal parts ridiculous and ridiculously luxurious, the case includes 40 colored pencils wound up within Gucci’s signature beige and ebony GG Supreme monogram canvas. Demetra trims line its edges, Gucci’s new, innovative animal-free raw material created from sustainable, renewable, and bio-based sources. The House’s emblematic red and green Web stripe loops around the center of the roll, capped off by the unmistakable gold-toned Double G hardware button closure.

Forever the philanthropists, Gucci offers complimentary monogramming on the inside of the case. Purchasers can have up to three initials embossed on the interior lining in a range of colors.

If not outrageously superfluous, the Double G Coloring Pencil Roll is undeniably eye-catching and meticulously crafted. Designed to harken back to old school stationery aesthetics, my old-school hand-written-letter senses are surely tingling.

So while most of us likely have a few more pressing items to spend nearly $800 on—oh, you know, things like rent, food, monthly bills—I can’t help but appreciate the audacity of a luxury good this excessive.
