Family Tree by Kyle White (Hattiesburg, MS)

This project is an exploration of the subject of home from a self-reflective and self-critical perspective. This specific piece depicts the structure and hierarchy of my immediate family.


Birds in a Box by Johann Wessels (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada)

Materials used: The work is an all digital creation made in Painter 10 using a Wacom Cintiq screen, then printed onto etching paper, framed with some old cedar fence planks to create the feeling of a box.Artist’s statement:

The title refers to the old nursery rhyme/song about 23 blackbirds baked in a pie. It is part of a body of work produced for an exhibition about how we tell stories and often will tell the same story in different ways….thus the blackbirds in different versions each in its own box.

This piece manifested out of a specific emotional headspace. It inspired the title for a collection of portraits, to be released in the near future.
