The application of metallic elements in design work—especially hand-lettered work—can be a rare and challenging gift. But Lesli Ink Ltd., “a design studio with an abundance of heart,” truly has the legendary Midas Touch, as evidenced by its “Cast of Characters” typographic poster design.
Spreading Cheer With Typographic Finesse (and Cookies)
What started out as a thoughtful holiday greeting ultimately earned Lesli Ink three design awards. The studio carefully hand-lettered each of their clients’ initials and sent them as holiday cards. Each card was accompanied by an invitation to a participate in a fun, engaging online holiday game.
Setting up a black and gold Wheel of Fortune-esque layout, the firm filled in a few letters and left the rest blank. The recipients of each card were invited to correctly guess the holiday message. The first ten winners received handmade cookies from the Lesli Ink team.
This tactic not only produced their elegant letterform designs, but it also proved to be an exceptionally clever marketing strategy.
The Award-Winning Hand-Drawn Letterforms:
The kindhearted gesture toward their clients produced stunning, high-quality typographic designs. Later, Lesli Ink hand-lettered the entire alphabet in a variety of styles.
They then compiled the letterforms into one masterful screen-printed poster design, dubbed the Cast of Characters.
The intricate letterforms received profound acclaim in the Applied Arts Design Annual, the Communication Arts Typography Annual and the HOW International Design Awards.
