Christopher Butler Leads HIDC’s 2014 Advisory Board + Programming Strategy

Christopher Butler

This year’s Advisory Board—HIDC’s strategy team—is led by Christopher Butler. As Chief Operating Officer for Newfangled, he spends much of his time managing the people and systems that keep Newfangled producing web platforms for independent agencies. But an even greater portion of his time is spent sharing what he’s learned about the web, interactive design and digital marketing topics, making Christopher the obvious choice to lead HIDC’s 2014 programming strategy.

Christopher has written articles on the current and future state of the web for Newfangled, Print magazine, HOW magazine and HOWDesign.com, and Smashing Magazine and is the author of The Strategic Web Designer: How to Confidently Navigate the Web Design Process.

Cameron Moll

Cameron Moll’s eclectic background includes his letterpress artwork of structures designed entirely with type, as well as his founding of AuthenticJobs.com, where companies and creative professionals meet to make a better web. The wide span of Cameron’s expertise reflects his conviction that you can create with any medium and onany canvas.

Cameron has written for HOW, Print, Communication Arts, Forrester Research publications, National Public Radio (NPR), and .netmagazine. (The last of these named him one of the top 20 web designers in the world.)

Karen McGrane; HOW interactive design conference

Karen McGrane, Managing Partner at Bond Art + Science, explains her job like this: “I tell companies how to fix what they’re doing wrong on the internet.” She’s written and presented extensively about mobile and responsive design, as well as the history of interactive design and content strategy.

Karen has been published in the Harvard Business Review, Creative Bloq, The Pastry Box, 52 Weeks of UX and A List Apart, and is the author of the books Content Strategy for Mobile and Your Content, Now Mobile.

David Sherwin

David Sherwin describes his mission even more broadly: “I help people unlock their potential through design.” He accomplishes that goal in spades, through his position as Interaction Design Director at frog, his books and toolkits combining design creativity and business acumen, and his mentoring of designer-led startups for The Designer Fund. David’s expertise spans UX design, information architecture and much more.

David is the author of Creative Workshop: 80 Challenges to Sharpen Your Design Skills and Success By Design: The Essential Business Reference for Designers. He is also a senior lecturer in the BFA in Interaction Design program at California College of the Arts. His writing has appeared in FastCoDesign, TheAtlantic.com/Life, A List Apart, Good. Is, PSFK.com, HOW and many other periodicals.
