In an impenetrable grab-bag of wallpaper image-making apps, Büro Destruct Designer (from Büro Destruct and their heavy metal umlauts, clearly) is a beautiful random image generator for the fickle owner. Shake your iPhone and you are presented with a lovely random geometric image whose palette and constituent shapes you can customize. There are desktop and desktop screen saver options as well. Reminds me a lot of early Saville compositions for New Order.
What’s a book, to you? How important is its physicality? I’m not going to make any comment on what I think a book’s structure should be because I don’t really like readily-available physical books. I don’t think they’re often well made, and I routinely refuse to read a book if I feel like typography is set by some junior chipmunk designer. Esther Ramirez is, and has been for a while, one of my favorite artists. Su and I discovered her work at this past summer’s Renegade Craft Fair, and I’m pretty sure I talked her up earlier this year—yep, there it is—but she’s been doing some really interesting things with large-scale compositions, looking at notions of intimacy and preciousness. Check out the color in her compositions; will definitely blow your socks off.
