Today, the Blank Space gallery launches a new virtual exhibition: “Loose Thread.” The show, on view through Sept. 13, explores textile, fiber and woven art through a medley of intriguing pieces from seven artists: Joell Baxter, Lauren Davies, Joanne Lobotsky, Kyle Meyer, Christian Newby, Aiko Tezuka and Betty Vera.
While all of their inspired work merits a close look in the gallery’s viewing room, we’re particularly taken by Tezuka’s.
The Japanese artist, who is based in Berlin, works in extraordinary acts of deconstruction.
As the gallery writes, “Beginning with readymade fabric, Tezuka carefully removes either the warp or weft and allows the loose threads to dangle and bend. By carefully pulling apart these readymade works and releasing the tension that keeps them both whole and opaque, she not only exposes the inherently obscured processes of weaving but also raises questions about the subjectivity of lived experience and change.”
