Writer, broadcaster and overall knowledge seeker Jonny Trunk is in the final hours of his latest Kickstarter campaign. After the success of Wrapper’s Delight, an extensive collection of vintage candy and sweets wrappers, and Own Label—a celebration of the Sainsbury's Design Studio—Trunk is back with yet another gorgeous graphics book, this time focusing on “sexy cars and the sexy graphic brochures that brought them to market.” Meet Auto Erotica.

Trunk began collecting car brochures and pamphlets as a teenager, writing to companies to request their latest marketing materials and bugging local shops for their extra leaflets. In a few short years, he boasted quite the collection. But as teenagers are wont to do, the young Trunk eventually moved on from his obsession to focus on other hobbies.

A few years ago, he rekindled his love for cars and began collecting vintage brochures again, amassing a sizable assortment. Full of “unusual graphic ideas and concepts,” Trunk knew they would make for a car book like no other—“fabulous, fetishistic and offering a deeply nostalgic look at beautiful old cars through the superb literature, leaflets and pamphlets that sold them to us.”

Auto Erotica is a collaboration with design and publishing company FUEL and takes a deep dive into rare graphics from the 1960s, ’70s, and ’80s, full of “fabulous photography, bizarre color charts, daring typography, strange fold-outs and inspiring styles.” With 240 pages of full-color graphics and a foreword from pop star and author Bob Stanley, Auto Erotica is sure to rev your engine.

The Kickstarter campaign has surpassed its goal and has the green light, and officially closes today, with the book slotted to ship worldwide in the spring.
