It’s a fine tribute that Emeco’s new Nine-0 chair, which launches this week at the Milan Furniture Fair, was Ettore Sottsass’s final design before he died last year at age 90. After all, there’s no greater proof you’ve attained icon status than when an iconic company lets you touch its most iconic design: After Sottsass let slip to Emeco CEO Gregg Buchbinder that he so admired the company’s original 1944 Navy Chair he wish he’d designed it himself, Buchbinder suggested he give it a shot. The Nine-0 updates the Navy with a soft, colored polyeurethane seat and a wider wheel base fit for this century’s expanding waistlines. From $395 for a stacking chair to $1,595 for a hand-polished swivel chair. www.emeco.net
