November 11, 2008. On the heels (and handbags) of Chanel’s Zaha Hadid-designed Mobile Art event in Central Park, curator, art dealer and developer, Kenny Schachter/ROVE, has brought together a series of large-scale installations, including sculptures, reliefs, design objects and paintings, also by Hadid. The work will be shown at two Manhattan Sonnabend galleries through December 13 and will include pieces like her ivy-like Masterplan, which resembles scales of water growing out of a corner of the room up the wall and over the ceiling, was made as part of Hadid’s urban plan for the Asian side of Istanbul. Another piece mutates a wall of the Opera House at the Abu Dhabi Performing Arts Centre into a vast liquid-looking relief that eventually congeals into the form of a desk. The dramatic Kloris is seating that takes the shape of flower petals. The Sonnabend Gallery, 536 West 22ndStreet (at Eleventh Avenue) and 168 Tenth Avenue at 21st Street). sonnabendgallery.com
