Tal Leming’s a typographer whose work you know, regardless of your awareness of his name. He’s the designer behind House Industries’ United and Burbank families, among many others. Of more use to his fellow typographers are his tools he’s made available for purchase.

There’s Area 51, which lets you look inside, edit, and save OpenType features into the files. There’s also MetricsMachine, retailing for a $500 license, which simplifies and helps ease the sublime horrors of letter-spacing and kerning, including the ability to create related groups of letters, dynamic contexts, and transformations. And Prepolator, going for $250, lets you test and compare glyphs to ensure they’re ready for automatic interpolation.
