19 Pieces of Design History from the Historic March on Washington
Today marks the 57th anniversary of the historic 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, the precursor of the Civil Rights Act the following year, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
It was where Martin Luther King Jr. revealed his dream to the 250,000 people in attendance—and the world at large. And the world responded.
In honor of the day, we’re taking a look at a host of the design artifacts from the March. Resounding with history, most of the pieces featured here come from the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, and the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.
