The 2000 Year Old Critic



For years I wanted to find a crisp copy of Mel Brooks’ The Critic, his first film (1963), for which he won an Academy Award as creator and narrator. A sendup of the ’60s-era abstract art films, it brought the genre down to earth for us semi-intellectuals and established the 2000 Year Old Man as a critical force to be reckoned with. Or as Brooks (a.k.a. Melvin Kaminsky) would say, What dah…is dis??
