Collecting Eames

I recently wrote about Eames Words at the A+D Museum in L.A., part of the Pacific Standard Time celebration of Modernism events. Curator Daniel Ostroff is also responsible for Collecting Eames from the collection of  JF Chen. Although I am unable to visit, what could be disappointing about 400 examples of the Eames’s products and furniture. Check out the exhibit at JF Chen, 941 N. Highland Avenue; free of charge, until January 14, 2012. Monday through Friday, 10:00am to 4:00pm; Saturday:  11:00am to 4:00pm. (Photos from opening event by Stefanie Keenan.)

From Dwell: JF Chen has amassed an impressive collection of work from entire Southern California design lions Charles and Ray Eames. On display: over 425 pieces of Eames objects spanning the entire chronology of their production, including an actual pavilion designed by Charles and Ray Eames, erected in the showroom, other rare Eames objects like a transistor radio and every style of Eames chairs made by Herman Miller. The iconic mid-century modern chairs will be arranged in an undulating timeline from 1939 through 1996. In conjunction with the exhibit, JF Chen and Eames Design are publishing a hardbound monograph “Collecting Eames, The JF Chen Collection.”

More from Herman Miller here.
