Cuban Heritage Collection in Miami

The Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami collects, preserves, and provides access to primary and secondary sources of enduring historical, research, and artifactual value which relate to Cuba and the Cuban diaspora from colonial times to the present.  The Collection supports the teaching, learning, and research needs of the University of Miami and the broader scholarly community. It is located in the Roberto C. Goizueta Pavilion at the University and offers a wide assortment of artifacts spanning the late nineteenth through the twentieth centuries – from Spanish rule to the July Revolution (below).

In addition to the physical archive Digital collection are available here.  Among the collections are Agrupación Abdala Poster Collection(an anti-communist organization of primarily Cuban-born students founded in the United States in 1968); The Cuban Postcard Collection (postcards of Cuba and the Cuban experience outside of Cuba produced from the turn of the 20th century to the present); The Cuba: Capitanía General Collection (including “bandos” (edicts), royal decrees, and official forms from 1896-1898 published during the governments of Valeriano Weyler and Ramón Blanco, Captain Generals of the Island of Cuba).

Archival and manuscript materials held by the Cuban Heritage Collection include collections of personal papers and organizational records and other primary sources that include historical and literary manuscripts, letters, photographs, maps, posters, sound and video recordings, and ephemera. Granma, August 1, 2006. "Granma" refers to the vessel that transported Fidel Castro and 81 revolutionary soldiers on an ill-fated trip from Mexico to Cuba.
