By 1924 electronics were the past, present and future. What to do with them, in addition to power for lights, was on everyone’s minds. Much like today, the options for new technologies were vast and imaginations ran wild.
Why shouldn’t electronics enable the manufacturing of “the diabolical ray”? Science fiction predicted such things were possible. And lo and behold, they became feasible. Rays and ray guns may be fantastical, but the kinds of fantasies that were merely illustrated in the past became real over time.
