Happy Birthday Dylan

To celebrate Bob Dylan’s 70th birthday, here is Les Enfants du Paradis, a 1945 film by French director Marcel Carné set among 19th century Parisian theater culture (see trailer here). It was the inspiration for Dylan’s historic Rolling Thunder Revue and his famous white face make-up.

Les Enfants du Paradis, set 1820s and 30s, “tells the story of a beautiful courtesan and the four men who love her in their own ways: a mime artist, an actor, a criminal and an aristocrat.”

The Rolling Thunder Revue was a traveling caravan of musicians, from late 1975 and early 1976, named after the Native American shaman Rolling Thunder.
