La Pubblicitá, Italian Style

During the 1950s advertisements appeared on Italian movie screens. Some were pretty amateur. Others had a more professional look. These appeared between the features and shorts and provide insight into what was selling back during Italy’s neo-realist era.

They were color slides that were projected in theaters. One company, which had a monopoly throughout southern Italy, provided to the theaters standard image to which local producers added their own outlets. Some of the images were designed by respected illustrators.

(These came from the book La pubblicità al cinema negli anni CinquantaSellerio)
