La Novella de Hoy

The weekly series of inexpensive novels, La Novella de Hoy, was first published on May 19, 1922The collection was characterized by having renowned authors and graphic artists who produced stylish and surprisingly ribald images.

The text length is short, and the themes presented were typical social issues at the time, including sex and romance. The goal was to entertain readers through accessible escapist literature. A cheap cover price, published in a small format and printed with little attention to quality, made economic sense. But the illustrations, which sold the books, are so stunning one forgets the rag newsprint its printed on.
