Lucian Bernhard On Stage
On May 27, I ran a short piece about Lucian Bernhard’s cover (below) for the Radio City Music Hall program from 1936. While working at his studio in New York City with his sons as assistants, Bernhard, the father of the Object Poster, did a lot of illustrative and typographic work. Today’s example is the program cover (c.1935) of noted Austrian-born German film and theater director who escaped Nazi Germany in 1933. The elegant simplicity of the monumental curtain in orange-red is an eye-catcher. The typography is a mass-up of Bernhard type specs.
