Design Miami: New Work from Meta by Mallett

December 3, 2008. With Meta: Masterpieces and Materials Past and Present, Meta, a new company launched this year by the London antiques house Mallett, will make its Miami debut and launch four new special edition products at Design Miami from December 3 – 6, alongside some of Mallett’s historical furniture, some pieces as old as 300 years. New additions to the collection include: a special edition of the Glissade writing desk by Wales & Wales (Rod and Alison Wales) made of prehistoric bog oak with a yellow lacquer pen tray; a gilt version of Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby’s Cidade candelabra and an all-black rendition of their hand-blown glass Cupola reading table; and Patrick Blanchard’s carved Acanthus table lamps made of translucent lime wood and sycamore. Meta’s collection also includes work by architects Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture of Asymptote, Matali Crasset and Tord Boontje in collaboration with a number of the finest (and sometimes rarest) craftsmen in the world. The Meta line weds 18th-century technique and materials with the most modern aesthetics. Certainly worth a peek. Mosaic Suite 100, 161 NE 40th Street (between1st and 2nd Avenues). madebymeta.com
