New Jersey’s Got Talent, Ya Know!
Those of us who reside east of the Hudson and west of the East rivers are grateful we don’t live anywhere else. Yet, despite all the Jersey put downs, it’s not such a bad place. In fact, aside from bridge lane closings and the incredible number of Jersey mayors on trial or in prison for graft and corruption, the Garden State has a fair concentration of very talented illustrators, a number of whom appear in an exhibition organized by Chris Gash, and feature the following Jerseyians.
“Made in New Jersey” is 10 illustrators living and working in New Jersey. “They’re from all over, and most have lived in NYC at one time or another, but they’re all in NJ now,” says Gash. The roster includes Ana Benaroya, Felix Sockwell, Lara Tomlin, Joe Ciardiello, Despina Georgiadis, Edel Rodriguez, Daniel Hertzberg, Wes Bedrosian, Greg Betza, and Gash.
The exhibit, opening on April 19 at Gallery 51 (51 Church Street / 973 744 4484) in the placid suburb of Montclair, takes the state at face value and celebrates the icons and virtues of the birthplace of Jason Alexander.
