Volkswagen AG’s new luxury sedan, the Phaeton, takes its name from Greek mythology; “phaeton” translates to “the shining one.” The sleek, sophisticated car, which debuts at the Geneva auto show in March, lives up to its name with curves reminiscent of the Beetle, the roominess of a four-door sedan and the distinct feel of a luxury car. Although currently in production at VW’s new Dresden plant, Phaeton won’t land on U.S. soil until 2003, and cost is estimated at $45,000 or higher. www.vw-online.de
