Reading is My Bag
Advertising is about reaching the public. Shopping bags are about carrying things. Put the two together and advertising uses the public to reach the public. Not a bad equation, especially when the advertising adds something to everyday existence. The current series of bags for Barnes & Noble does just that.
Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv got the handle on how to encourage reading and save bags. Each one of the six in the series is a veritable illuminated book page for Moby-Dick, Alice In Wonderland, Wizard of Oz, Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet and Tom Sawyer. Picture sitting on the bus with nothing to read, and somebody across from you has a B&N bag. The possibilities are infinite. The bags are beautiful.
