Remembering the Fugs
When I was a 15 year old, I frequented The Bridge, a small concert hall on St. Marks Place, for the regular Saturday night Fugs feast. I was an aspiring hippie, and the Fugs tingled every anti-establishment nerve in my body. I frequented the Peace Eye Bookstore. I followed Ed Sanders, Tuli Kupferberg, and the other Fugs to the Astor Place Theater when they emerged from the underground.
A few nights ago, I saw that a set of their songs, “Kill For Peace,” “Boobs A Lot,” “Nothing,” “Group Grope” and “Dirty Old Man,” among them, has been released as a CD compilation. If you’re interested in sampling the Fugs go here and click on the music links on the right.
