Despite the joy it brings me to see those digits change from 20 to 21, I'm still trying to retain every last second of 2020. Apart from the hallucinogenic (and superstitious) power of renewal that the concept of a "new year" may bring, it also means 2020 will never ever happen again. 2021 may be better or worse (I remain hopeful), but good, bad or indifferent, 2020 is over — suspended in the time/space continuum — neither here nor there. Hopefully our surfeit of awful memories will be filtered to preserve the few good things that may have happened. In any case, 2020 is kaput …

Every year I get a mailbox full of holiday cards. The one's celebrating the New Year are particularly poignant, entertaining and meaningful. Here are the best of the bunch chosen for wit, intelligence and elegance. Thank you.

So, in with the new, out with … ’nuff said.
