If you live to be 82 as Paul Rand did, you’ll probably have produced a lot of work that gets lost in the shuffle of life. This 1948 issue of the AIGA Journal is one such lost piece that recently surfaced among Rand’s long filed artifacts. Rand was the typographer for the cover and interior. Years later he designed the AIGA logo without the periods and other variations. That was the period when designers loved to use periods.
The A.I.G.A. when Rand made this typography was then mostly aimed at the book design field. But as these pages evidence (click on images to read), the Journal was making a case for the importance of graphic design and design education.
