After years of pursuing a major New York museum for an Arthur Szyk exhibition, Szyk advocate Irvin Unger and the prestigious New York Historical Society Museum & Library will host “Arthur Szyk: Soldier in Art” from Sept. 15–Jan. 21. It has been over 40 years since a prominent museum in New York City has held a Szyk show. Located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side on Central Park West at W. 77th St., the Historical Society is the perfect venue. Szyk lived on W. 74th Street in the early 1940s, only blocks from the museum. “I am sure he would be pleased to know that he is being brought to life again in his old neighborhood, and in such style, 66 years after his death,” says Unger. It’s never too early to mark your calendar for this important event honoring a significant political caricaturist, and magazine and book illustrator. A catalog will also accompany the exhibit.
