Weekend Heller: Stamp Butcher

Niko Courtelis is a creative director, filmmaker, and, says the Kat Ran Press, “a butcher of stamps.” He carves, cuts and eerily reassembles rare and vintage stamps into collages with sly wit and artful juxtapositions. His book, published by Kat Ran, Philatelic Atrocities, takes these paper “Frankensteins and turns them into a lookbook of freaks, oddities, printing, and design.”

Philatelic Atrocities contains seventeen full-color details and reproductions of Niko Courtelis’s stamp collages. A brief introduction by Courtelis explains why it’s OK to chop up stamps. Take that USPS.

Legends in Advertising Awards Print’s new competition recognizes outstanding advertising work, from PSAs to campaigns to student work to radio — and everything in between. Enter the Legends in Advertising Awards for a chance to have your work featured in a special issue of Print.
