Weekend Heller: The Craft of Writing & Posters for American Parks

Artisan and Letterer The General Society of Mechanics & Trademen of the City of New York (founded in 1785) sponsors a lecture series that pays tribute to the art of craftsmanship. The Society features internationally known artisans who talk about the intricacies of their specialized crafts. “The Artisan Lecture Series promotes the work and art of skilled craftsmen to assist in ensuring their unique knowledge is understood and carried forth for future generations. Curated by General Society member, Camille Wiart, who brings to the curatorship her wide connections among the artisan community.”

Lectures start at 6:30PM in The General Society Library, 20 West 44th Street, (Between 5th and 6th Avenues), New York City. Reception to follow. Advance registration is suggested. $15 General admission, $10 General Society members, $5 Students.

America, Call Home . . . Aaron Perry-Zucker, creator of the Design for Obama initiative, and the Creative Action Network are  launching a new campaign next week: See America. In partnership with the National Parks Conservation Association, they are inviting artists from all 50 states to create a new series of posters, reviving the legacy of the 1930s New Deal arts projects, while celebrating American’s shared natural landmarks and treasured sites. The campaign is launching today, 1/10, with an exhibition at the FDR Presidential Library & Museum in Hyde Park, NY.
