Your Moment of Design Zen: Wiper and True Beer

Thanks to facilities powered by 100% renewable energy and a carbon-neutral approach, alongside production that omits synthesized chemicals and processing aids, the Bristol, UK–based Wiper and True brewery has always taken a future-facing approach to its craft.

So it’s only fitting that Studio Makgill has long embraced a progressive design for the brand’s identity and packaging.

Wiper and True regards beer as a testament to our relationship with nature—and that’s what Studio Makgill sought to explore in their work.

“Fermentation is a natural process that has been harnessed by mankind from as early as the Neolithic period, with endless creative possibilities still exciting taste buds the world over,” Studio Makgill writes. “To this end, the identity and packaging centers around a series of illustrations that each depict an example of how mankind has harnessed nature. … A simple identity deliberately designed to pluck curiosity from behind the bar.”

Studio Makgill crafted a line of clean, modern bottle designs for the brewery, and has continued to work with them as they have shifted to a can focus both for both environmental reasons, and because it keeps the product at its freshest.

And the package remains as beautiful as ever.
