For the last few months, I’ve been recording the names of accessible wifi networks that have been brought to my attention by my cellphone’s constant insistance on searching for available wifi. Sadly, most are locked. Happily, most have amazing and adorable names.
Living in Brooklyn, New York and working across the river in Manhattan, I’m alerted to hundreds of nearby wifi signals each day. Like flags marking their territory, these wifi signals warn me to not borrow any internet access, while alerting me of their owner’s personalities.
Long live the inside jokes, subtle anger and general goofiness of New Yorkers& their wifi kingdoms.
