Black lives matter. You would think that to be an inarguable truth, but the last 400 years have proven otherwise. So using your non-BIPOC voice and your actions to say as much and to do as much to force our crooked system to behave in a way that reflects that truth—that is our duty. As a human being that lives and succeeds in a society—that is our task. It is not something we should require nor expect thanks, applause, or a pat on the back for. We should do it because it needs to be done. Like looking both ways before we cross the street. Changing the oil in our car when the light turns on. Washing our dishes when they’re dirty. We do them because to live in a world that YOU want to live in, you must. Speak up. Do something. Hold yourself (that includes myself) accountable. Because how dare you not?

In the spirit of speaking out, I want to thank all of you who reached out yesterday with love, support, kindness and help. I received so many excellent suggestions and comments and while I know its a very small dent in the universe, every bit of love that is spread is very much the opposite of hate and murder. Love and kindness do go a long way, but they can’t solve all the problems alone. So in addition to spreading as much love and kindness as possible, we need to take action. I have put 2 links in my bio link with resources to help. — The first is an anti-racism guide courtesy of @lexington_75 which is filled with great quotes, essays, and suggested books on the subject. Here is my favorite quote from it: “The beauty of anti-racism is that you don’t have to pretend to be free of racism to be anti-racist. Anti-racism is the commitment to fight racism wherever you find it, including in yourself. And it’s the only way forward.” -Ijeoma Oluo — The second is a google doc shared courtesy of @vahlre with links petitions, organizations to donate to, info on protests and event, names and contact #s for relevant leaders, and lots of other helpful info. — So visit the link in my bio and please feel free to share more below, people are looking for ways to help, and I would love to help share those things as well. And if you have not done anything yet, DO IT! Speak up. Talk! Read! Educate yourself. Ask questions. It was not easy for me to speak up yesterday but I did and I’m so glad I did. Let’s do this fam. We stand in solidarity with those calling for justice after yet another killing of an unarmed black man by the police. We’re calling on all agencies, studios, graphic designers in the design and advertising industry as well as all brands that believe Black Lives Matter to stand with us. We have work to do. Perhaps you’re wondering, what should my brand or businesses do to help? Get clear on your values. Educate yourself and your team. Listen to your customers. Your customers expect your brand to speak out against racism and take action to drive change. American brands and business owners have a moral obligation to not only speak up about racism but also be a part of the solution. 🗣 ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! 🗣 If you aren’t angry about the deaths of #ahmaudarbery #breonnataylor #georgefloyd and countless other black men and women who have died at the hands of a racist, broken system, one of two things is true: 1. You either aren’t paying attention, or 2. You’re part of the problem. If you’re tired of hearing about racism or seeing us speak out against it, imagine how tired people are of experiencing it every. single. day. White and white-passing people: If you want to help but you’re not sure how, start by educating yourself. Knowledge is power. Then, check your privilege. Recognize that, even if your life has been hard, your skin color isn’t one of the things making it harder. And one more thing: stop saying, “I’m not racist because I don’t see color.” First of all, if you aren’t blind, that’s bullshit. Second, when you say you don’t see color, you’re ignoring racism while completely dismissing black history and culture. Stop doing that! See color, learn about it, celebrate it! To everyone hurting right now, I’m with you. I see you, and I’ll do everything I can to be part of the solution. I can promise you that.
