Who among us has not made a tableau? No, not setting a dining room table, but the artistic variety of tableau. As kids, most of us produced dioramas with dolls or toy soldiers and other bits and pieces of treasured, found stuff. Tableaux are three dimensional environments–composed assemblages of things–that tell a story, start a conversation, or simply look good (the best are all three). Deborah Buck, who runs the eponymous Buck House gallery, not only specializes in tableau, she’s produced a book about her own that’s designed by Tamara Gildengers Connolly. If you’re in New York tonight (Monday, March 9), help celebrate the book at the Madeline Weinrib Atelier at ABC Carpet & Home at 888 Broadway from 6:30-8:30. Send an e-mail to madelineweinribevents@abchome.com to make a reservation.
Also: Don’t forget to save your spot at my webinar tomorrow for Print, the first in a series of web-related design presentations. “Designer + Client: Steven Heller’s Success Stories” will cover various working approaches and client relationships. It begins at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 10. Go here to sign up!
P.S. A short note of farewell to Kristina DiMatteo, art director of Print, who is leaving after having made quite a design mark on the magazine. She will be decidedly missed. Thanks for the great work, Kristina.
