Olga Mezhibovskaya’s typography classes at the School of Visual Arts, in New York City, are profoundly experimental and interdisciplinary, touching on more than one of the senses. She has had students interpret a variety of music visually and typographically; printed pieces that were then interpreted musically by different musicians. She writes:
While looking at the designs of Shakespearean Sonnets, theatrical plays, and books of poems by contemporary playwrights and poets, you will hear the sound of the actors performing … but the actors will not be there. But the typographic exercises, books, posters, installations, video, motion graphics,— all of which evoke and are led by rhythm, music, sound, movement, and performance—will be very much present.
