The design industry is filled with undiscovered, extraordinary talent. The internet has made it somewhat easier to find great work via blogs and social media shares, but if an illustrator or designer really wants to connect with industry influencers, it has to be done in a one-on-one meeting or through a conference that an industry influencer is keynoting. I thought I would provide our Print Magazine audience with a rundown on some of the speakers that will be headed to our sister brand’s conference, HOW Design LIVE in June. Many are members of the print, art, and illustrating industry as well. (SEE LIST OF COMPANIES ATTENDING AT THE END OF THIS POST)
Our lead keynote is best-selling author, Austin Kleon, whose plans to reveal, “How to Steal Like an Artist.” His program is expected to be one of the biggest draws. According to the HOW Design LIVE program, “His opening keynote is a lesson in applied creativity based on key insights he wishes he’d known about when he started out.”
There are other extreme benefits to attending as well. Imagine meeting a partner and designer of Chermayeff & Geismar, Sagi Haviv, the company that is responsible for developing some of the world’s most iconic brand designs:
Haviv will lead a talk on “The Principles of Brand Identity Design” on June 25 at 9am. Haviv is one of my design heroes for many reasons, not the least of which has been Chermayeff & Geismar’s incredible ability to capture the essence of a brand through corporate design. Those who plan to be an attendee at HOW Design LIVE will be able to meet, connect and exchange business cards with industry icons like Haviv.
Do you have a design, but you’re not sure what you should do with it? Johnny Earle, will also speak at HOW Design LIVE on June 24th at 6:30pm. Earle is better know as “Johnny Cupcakes,” who transformed a design and made it into one of the most successful brand launches to date.
Before and after Johnny Cupcakes speaks, he will be working his way through HOW Design LIVE. Pick his brain about that great design you wanted to put on a t-shirt, but you weren’t sure how to sell them. (He began selling from his car).
Remember that corporate meeting you’ve been trying to set up? This is it! It’s your chance to create allies, draft mentors and engage with industry influencers in a venue where sharing and networking is paramount. Here’s a list of our corporate attendees:

Panama Canal Authority
Great American Insurance Group
Billy Graham Evangelistic Association
Hard Rock International
