Australia was burning.
From New Zealand, Strategy Creative Design Director Chris Flack watched the decimation wrought by the country’s brush fires.
“Being a designer, I didn’t know what else to do than to grab pen and paper,” he says.
With assistance from his 2-year-old son, Leo, Flack found himself with a poster that morphed the words “CLIMATE CHANGE” into “MATE ACT NOW”—and the seeds of a project were planted.
Mate Act Now has since gone global and has drawn submissions from some 200 designers, 100 of which have found their way to a limited-edition print book, with all proceeds going to Red Cross Disaster Relief Australia.
Though humanity is currently engaged in a battle against the novel coronavirus, Flack is urging the world to not lose sight of what will be an even greater crisis if we do not act now.
“We don’t want to take away from the enormous toll COVID-19 is taking on human health and the global economy, but the greatest long-term threat to everything we hold dear is climate change,” he says. “It’s important we don’t lose perspective of that and continue to do what we all can, with the skills we possess, to tackle the climate crisis with the same willpower and global collaboration being displayed in the fight against COVID-19.”
Flack encourages anyone to download and share the posters for free. Here are 20 we found to be especially powerful. For the full set, click here.
