This Privacy Policy and Cookie Statement explains how PRINT (“PRINT,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information in connection with our websites, newsletters, awards and contests (including the PRINT Awards), events, job board, submissions and portfolios, e‑commerce and payment activities related to our offerings, affiliate links and programs, and any other online services that link to this Privacy Policy (collectively, the “Services”).
By accessing or using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
This Privacy Policy does not apply to websites, apps, platforms, or services that we do not own or control, even if linked from the Services; those are governed by their own policies.
1) What we collect
We collect information directly from you, automatically when you use the Services, and from third parties and partners. The categories of information we collect may include:
- Identifiers and contact information such as name, username, email address, postal address, phone number, and similar identifiers; account credentials if you create an account.
- Profile and submissions information such as portfolios, entries, resumes, job postings, biographies, and any materials you upload or submit for awards, contests, features, or the job board; and associated metadata.
- Commercial and transaction information relating to purchases or paid entries/registrations processed via third‑party payment processors; we do not store full payment card numbers on our systems.
- Internet or device information such as IP address, device and browser type, operating system, pages viewed, referring/exit pages, timestamps, and cookie or pixel IDs.
- Inferences and preferences we derive from your activity to help personalize content or communications.
- Communications and correspondence, including when you contact us or subscribe to newsletters.
- Job board interactions, including employer postings and applicant submissions.
- Any other information you choose to provide through forms or interactive features.
We do not direct the Services to children and do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected information from a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent, we will delete it.
2) How we use information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To provide, operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Services; present content; and process your requests and transactions.
- To administer awards, contests, events, and programs, including judging, notifications, publicity, archival, and related operations.
- To publish or feature submissions and editorial content consistent with our user content and program rules, where applicable.
- To manage accounts, subscriptions, and communications, including sending newsletters, service announcements, and marketing communications, with the ability to unsubscribe from marketing at any time.
- For personalization, analytics, research, and performance measurement.
- For fraud prevention, security, compliance with legal obligations, enforcing our terms, and protecting our rights and users.
- For any other purpose with your consent or as disclosed at the time of collection.
3) Cookies and tracking technologies
We and our service providers and partners use cookies, pixels, web beacons, local storage, and similar technologies to operate the site, remember your preferences, analyze usage, and in some cases support advertising or affiliate tracking. You can control cookies through your browser settings; however, disabling certain cookies may affect site functionality.
We participate in affiliate programs (for example, Bookshop.org) and may earn commission from qualifying purchases through links on the Services; those third parties may set their own cookies or tracking technologies subject to their policies.
Where required by applicable law, we will honor Global Privacy Control or similar universal opt-out signals for opt-outs of sale/sharing or targeted advertising, and we will provide a mechanism to manage cookie preferences.
4) How we disclose information
We may disclose information as follows:
- To service providers and contractors that perform services on our behalf, such as hosting, analytics, email, customer support, judging and awards administration, marketing, payment processing, and security, subject to appropriate confidentiality obligations.
- To program partners, sponsors, or judges in connection with awards, contests, events, editorial features, or the job board, as necessary to administer those offerings or publish results and features.
- To advertisers, affiliate platforms, and analytics partners in connection with measurement, reporting, and where applicable targeted advertising, subject to your choices and applicable law.
- To comply with law, legal process, or enforceable governmental requests; to enforce our agreements and terms; to protect users, our Services, or our rights; or in connection with corporate transactions such as a merger, sale, or acquisition.
- With your consent or at your direction.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Some disclosures, including the use of advertising cookies or sharing with third parties for cross‑context behavioral advertising, may be considered a “sale” or “share” under certain state privacy laws. You may opt out of such sale/sharing where applicable through the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link and by using a supported opt-out preference signal.
5) Your choices and rights
- Emails. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails by using the link included in the message. We may still send you non‑marketing or transactional communications.
- Cookies and tracking. You can adjust browser settings to refuse or delete cookies; you may also use our cookie preferences tool where available. Note that some features may not function without certain cookies.
- Access, correction, deletion, portability, and appeals. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to request access to, correct, delete, or obtain a portable copy of your personal information; to opt out of targeted advertising, sale/sharing, or certain profiling; and to appeal a denial of your request. - Non‑discrimination. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
6) Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Services, for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. We may retain aggregated or de‑identified information for longer.
7) Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8) International users and transfers
If you access the Services from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and other countries, which may have data‑protection laws different from those in your country of residence. Where required, we will implement appropriate safeguards for cross‑border transfers.
9) Job board and employer postings
Employers are responsible for the content of job postings and compliance with applicable employment laws. Applicants are responsible for the accuracy of their submissions. We are not an employer of users through the job board and are not responsible for interactions between employers and applicants.
10) Affiliate links and third-party content
The Services include links to third‑party sites, services, or content that we do not control. Your interactions with those third parties are governed by their terms and privacy policies. We are a member of affiliate programs and may earn commissions; see our Disclosures section where applicable.
11) State-Specific Privacy Disclosures (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Oregon, Texas, and Other Applicable States)
Residents of certain U.S. states have additional rights regarding their personal information. These rights may include:
- the right to know or request access to the categories or specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you;
- the right to request deletion of your personal information;
- the right to request correction of inaccurate personal information;
- the right to request a portable copy of your personal information;
- the right to opt out of the processing of personal information for targeted advertising, sale, or sharing;
- the right to opt out of certain profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects; and
- the right to appeal a decision we make regarding a privacy request.
We do not sell personal information for monetary consideration. However, certain uses of advertising or analytics technologies may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” under some state privacy laws. You may opt out of such sale/sharing where applicable by using the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link or by enabling a recognized opt-out preference signal, such as Global Privacy Control (GPC), which we honor where required.
To submit a request to access, delete, correct, obtain a copy of your information, or to opt out of sale/sharing or targeted advertising, please use our privacy request form or contact us at privacy@printmag.com. We will verify and respond to your request consistent with applicable law. If we deny your request, you may appeal by following the instructions in our response.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
12) Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new “Last Updated” date. Your continued use of the Services after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
