When it comes to the world of packaging, no one covers it more comprehensively than Dieline—so we’ve partnered with our friends at the site on a new column, 5 Package Designs of the Week.

Check in every Friday for five of the finest pieces of pack from the week that was.

Driftwell

“PepsiCo has announced a new drink that aims to help consumers wind down. Driftwell contains 200 grams of L-theanine, an amino acid found in green tea, long observed as having stress-mitigating properties. Each can will also have 10% of the recommended daily intake of magnesium, a mineral supplement commonly taken to improve sleep and mood. … Driftwell comes in 7.5 oz cans, dominated by two soothing hues of blue; a yellow ball floats in the bottom third, and there are no sharp edges to be found. The typography suggests a sense of calm, and the wordmark’s shape gives it motion that it is indeed powering-down, and not amping-up.”

Guardini

“The fresh, youthful and decidedly modern design of Guardini utilizes a straightforward [approach] to captivate alcohol consumers everywhere. We’re loving the typography throughout that combines the playfulness of the brand with the handwritten scrawl indicating what recipe is in each can.”

Seedlip

“Nonalcoholic spirits maker Seedlip makes prominent use of nature, both in the botanicals used in its offerings, and visually with the exquisite illustrations that adorn the distiller’s labels and branding. Seedlip is looking to be kinder to that fount of inspiration with the newest gift set for their Spice 94 spirit, with packaging that requires fewer resources to produce and can get returned to nature with the utmost of ease. Rather than use traditional card stock to form the packaging for the gift set, the firm opted for a mycelium-based material from the Magical Mushroom Company. The lightweight packaging will break down in your compost bin in as little as 40 days.”

“Oeja Botanica doesn't spend time on cheap thrills, opting for a very direct brand design that stays with you. … Each extract has its own squared shape structure to denote variants. The modern design inspired by nature allows the ingredients to take center stage.”

Veuve Clicquot

“Champagne house Veuve Clicquot is tapping into the spirit of individuality, creativity and personal expression with its ‘Retro, Chic!’ gift collection. Each gift box gets modeled after a cassette tape with one of six very ’80s-inspired face graphics, such as zebra prints, diamond facets and retro sunset. The range covers a lot of ground graphically, having at least one design that will hit just the right nostalgic groove for anyone.”
