I first saw Jamie Caliri’s work at the end of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. This closing credit sequence had greater impact on me than the actual movie.
The sequence were created by director and animator Jamie Caliri. I met Jamie a few years back in New York and he explained to me how he sent (as my memory best serves me) his mom to the Goodwill to pick out fabrics and he scanned them… creating cut-out puppets and environments in After Effects. What unfolds is a fanciful world so perfectly punctuated by Thomas Newman’s playfully chilling score.
I truly appreciate Jamie’s powerful sense of story and timeless dedication to beautiful imagery in this age of glossy animation.
