Andy Warhol would be proud of Swedish hardcore punk band Pissjar. To promote the band’s first album Apathy & Cheap Thrills, the members created their own experimental typeface. Using their own urine.

It’s called Pissjar Sans. Get it?

The typeface is available for free at www.pissjar.com, where you can learn everything you need to know about the the seven-month project. That’s six months of peeing and one month of putting the final touches on the font.

“We wanted to have a logo that really looked like we sound. But we soon realized that this is bigger than a logo, it is what the world really deserves—piss,” says Anton Bolin, the bass player for Pissjar and also designer of the typeface.

So how did they do it?

“We built a custom frame and tried out loads of different fabrics, using some good pieces of worn bed sheets with the perfect absorbency to cover the frame. Then we just started to pee a lot, one letter per pee session. When the bladder was empty we had like 5 seconds to photograph the frame before it bled out. After that we vectorized the photo and edited it with a font software,” explains the website.

Something tells me we’ll be hearing good things about Pissjar, and their experimental typeface, in the future.

“Spice up your wedding invitation, school report or use it as a logo for your shitty startup.”
