In 1990, as geopolitical shifts were occurring in the Soviet sphere, I decided a Whole Earth Catalog-like book devoted to the entire Red world might be an interesting capstone to a tumultuous era. Alas, no American publisher thought so. I recently uncovered pieces of the pitch dummy for The Whole Red Catalog with some of the photographs used to chart the rise and fall. Anyone interested?
