Foew&ombwhnw: A Grammar of the Mind and a Phenomenology of Love and a Science of the Arts as Seen by a Stalker of the Wild Mushroom (Something Else Press, 1969) was conceived and “designed” by Dick Higgins (1938-1998), a poet of the Fluxus conceptual art movement.
The Something Else Press was founded by Higgins in 1963 and published concrete poetry, “intermedia” and books by Fluxus artists (which was tasked with purging “the world of bourgeois sickness…of dead art”). This book was anti-bourgeois medicine, part dictionary, encyclopedia and bible. Designed in a serious reference book format, it also displays the ticks and twitches of experimental typography.
