A Rand Memorial

From time to time I look back at my collection of notes by, for or about Paul Rand. Over decades, many piled up, most were forgotten. This is a memorial about Rand by his good friend and colleague, the late Morris Wyszogrod, who was an art student in Warsaw, Poland, when the Nazis occupied the city. He used his skills as calligrapher, typographer and illustrator while in a succession of Nazi concentration camps, which enabled him to survive the Holocaust. After he was liberated he emigrated to the United States, went to art school and was hired by Rand, then art director at the William H. Weintraub Agency. Rand was his guardian angel during those early postwar years, and I don’t think Morris would mind having his feelings recalled over 20 years later.
