When there were real jobs in this country, this is what this country made: real cans (the little can that could?). These ash cans and garbage pails represent the concerted efforts of the sheet metal industry … and what the sheet metal industry made graphic designers make into promotional booklets with handlettered type and hand-drawn imagery. This was the economy, industry and business at its best. Forces of manufacturing, marketing and commercial art joined solidly together like the seams of the can to the bolts of the base.
