David Hillman Curtis’ documentary RIDE, RISE, ROAR, premiered yesterday at DocNYC and is scheduled for another showing Tuesday November 9 too (1:30 PM at IFC Center). If you liked Jonathan Demme’s 1984 STOP MAKING SENSE with the Talking Heads, you’ll love this. If you haven’t seen Demme’s film, its worth the effort.

This is a David Byrne concert film that blends onstage performances with details of the creative collaborations. Shot over several concerts during the August 2009 tour, “the film blends the energy and charisma of classic Talking Heads with the heartfelt pathos of Byrne and Brian Eno’s most recent collaboration. Between the songs the film documents behind-the-scenes auditions, rehearsals, and interviews with key players who achieved the show’s unique fusion of pop music and modern dance.”

Steven Heller has written for PRINT since the 1980s. He is co-chair of SVA MFA Designer as Entrepreneur. The author, co-author and editor of over 200 books on design and popular culture, Heller is also the recipient of the Smithsonian Institution National Design Award for "Design Mind," the AIGA Medal for Lifetime Achievement and other honors. He was a senior art director at The New York Times for 33 years and a writer of obituaries and book review columnist for the newspaper, as well. His memoir, Growing Up Underground (Princeton Architectural Press) was published in 2022. Some of his recent essays are collected in For the Love of Design (Allworth Press).

Partner at Dieline and Print Magazine, Jessica is also a packaging designer and faculty member at ArtCenter College of Design. She has worked as a professional hands-on designer for a wide array of notable brands since 2005. In 2014, Jessica decided to combine both design and business to grow the Dieline. In 2016, she became a faculty member at ArtCenter College of Design teaching students sustainable packaging design. Which led her to a 2018 ADC Bronze cube for her contribution as an instructor to the sustainable student project “Wise by Patagonia.” In 2019, she become a partner at Print Magazine. Her personal goals include endlessly learning about sustainable materials and sharing that information to designers and attempting to live a plastic-free sustainable life.

Zachary Petit is an editor-at-large for PRINT, the former editor-in-chief of PRINT magazine, and the author of The Essential Guide to Freelance Writing and Treat Ideas Like Cats.
