This gets my vote for the King of Elvis books. Just when you think Mr. Pelvis has been forgotten, he emerges in this stunningly entertaining illustrated The Mighty Elvis: A Graphic Bioigraphy by Seymour Chwast and Steven Brower. Chwast’s drawings and visual narratives bring new life to the old King. I asked Chwast about his memories, past, present and future, of who my generation used to call Elvis Pretzel, for his signature gyrations. See video sample here.
What did you base your depictions of Elvis on?Hundreds of photos of a very photogenic performer.
Is this book aimed at Elvis fans or Elvis neophytes?New and old fans appreciate his talent, persona and incredibly good looks.
What was the most surprising thing that you learned about Elvis?I was surprised to find that he was a normal, nice guy, unfortunately done in by fame. A southerner who believed in equality.
Do you believe Elvis is still alive?Yes, in my book.
